These satellite dish works are studies for a yet to be conceived sculptural installation inspired by events of the so called Arab Spring - specifically the protests that led to the ouster of Egypt's Hosni Mubarak in 2011. Satellite Dishes are the predominant receptor of information/television throughout the Middle East- and they were also employed as shields during clashes with the authorities in public protests and uprisings, especially in Cairo's Tahir Square. In this light, they represent a poignant symbol for political and social change.

Rich lives and works in New York City and West Jefferson, NC.

He has exhibited nationally and internationally in museums and galleries, and his work is included in makor international collections, private and public. His work is represented by Peter Blum Gallery in New York and he has been the recipient of numerous awards, grants and residencies including a Traveling Scholars Grant from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, a Marie Walsh Sharpe Foundation Studio Grant and a New York Foundation for the Arts Grant for Painting.
