Benjamin Degen works in painting, drawing and sculpture.  His artworks are an interplay between elements and conventions of Western and Eastern classical aesthetic traditions as well as American folk art, abstract painting and typography.

 

Degen received his BFA in 1998 from Cooper Union. He had solo exhibitions at Guild and Greyshkul Gallery and Museum 52 in New York City as well as Kantor Feuer Gallery in Los Angeles, and Medium Gallery in St. Barthelemy (French West Indies). His work has been featured in group shows in the US, Europe and Asia. His artworks are included in the permanent collections of the MoMA, The Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, and The Collezione Maramotti.

He has taught painting and drawing at The Cooper Union in New York City and has been a visiting artist at Rhode Island School of Design, Maryland Institute of Contemporary Art, Brooklyn College and the Yale University School of Art Norfolk program.

 

Degen has an upcoming solo exhibition this fall at Susan Inglett Gallery, New York.
